As a white female I have at times felt the same way about people of color, and it is hard to point the blame to one single influence but I consider it a lifetime of living in a social environment that honors prejudices more than acceptance and respect for everyone. It's great to hear how much you have learned from this class and now have a level of awareness to start conversation with others to join the efforts to creating change in our society.Travelerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12232819708997063771noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3055570113377670997.post-87955493060001669542011-01-10T13:49:08.772-08:002011-01-10T13:49:08.772-08:00I also read this article and really enjoyed your t...I also read this article and really enjoyed your take on it. I agree that prejudice and racism are two different things although they are often considered the same. I also think that Tatum makes a good point in mentioning that racism is not just for whites. I also agree that everything comes at a cost, including race.Kelly Ohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01435762136992857191noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3055570113377670997.post-44163892061767236782011-01-10T07:29:26.449-08:002011-01-10T07:29:26.449-08:00I couldn't agree more with your statement on s...I couldn't agree more with your statement on social gathering fights between whites and then between blacks. I also have to admit that I am more afraid if I witness a fight between black people rather than white people. Also in fear that they may pull a gun or knife on each other. I'm not proud to feel this way either but like you said this is the way America has portrayed black people and it's sad that we live day to day with some form of fear about them, when really they are normal Americans like you and I, and at times should not be feared of. You're right, we're all human and need to be treated equally and given respect.lisac4https://www.blogger.com/profile/14676608042385458713noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3055570113377670997.post-75803412678535876082011-01-09T21:24:57.259-08:002011-01-09T21:24:57.259-08:00This is a nice overview of Tatum's article. In the past, I have used her book Why Do All the Black Kids Sit Together in the Cafeteria, where she goes into much greater detail. I highly recommend it.Joelle Ruby Ryanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02815054251523463134noreply@blogger.com
